AND, IN THE END………………

We passed the finish line smoothly!

This past Monday Len Salerno and I dismantled the entire exhibit, repacking everything carefully for transport. After all the artwork was loaded into the truck and securely tied down, I drove off into the setting sun, with a big smile on my face!

A huge thank you to all who made it happen  – to those who labored and to all who came!

An Artists Statement was written for the Exhibit. Having reread it earlier, I find that it holds true now, in the end, as much if not more than it did in the beginning. I would like to share it with you here:

ARTISTS STATEMENT:

Art has always been a natural predisposition for me. It was just something that I knew I wanted to do. I truly enjoy the quiet solitude of the moment. It is the place where I am the happiest and learn the most about myself. As a child, I was fortunate that my parents saw and nurtured this.

Over the years I have had the privilege to work on so many interesting commissions. I enjoy the challenge of site specific work, the challenge of taking something and tailoring it to fit a unique space is a thrill for me.

I thoroughly enjoy each current project and am excited about the next one – the yet unknown 0ne.

On August 27, 2010, a funny thing happened at the opening of the Louis Rorimer Exhibit here at Virginia Marti College. Cristina McCarthy, Chair of the Interior Design Department, in casual conversation, proposed an exhibit of my work. After processing the idea for a short while, I returned agreeing and replied: “perhaps a sampling.” And so, these seven plus months later, welcome to a sampling of the four major disciplines in which I currently work.

To the College, Mrs. Virginia M. Veith, its President, Mrs. Cristina McCarthy, the exhibit’s coordinator, and to all who labored to make it possible, my profound gratitude for the opportunity to share with you this sampling, this small slice of what I do.

I would be remiss if I did not add that, while it was my parents who guided me to my “natural place”, it has been my wife Lydia who in her unique way has made sure that I appreciate it. That I appreciate: where I am, all that I have, and most of all that I stay here!

It is to her that this exhibit is dedicated!

With gratitude,                                                                                                                                                                                               Andrij Maday

It was truly a marvel to see the outstanding work that you do. You are one of the reasons VMCAD is a great place to study. You truly are a master with many apprentices!
Someday, I’d love to learn more about your method for woodcuts!

    • Andrij Maday says:

Thank you for your kind words Chris! They made my day……

PS: – A master is only as good as his apprentices…………
It is all for and because of the students!

  2. Janet Simonovich says:

Yes Chris, it WAS a marvel – from beginning to end.

I just received my Fish. It is absolutely breath-taking and looks like an original piece. You are so talented, but then I knew that when we were much, much younger.

    Again, Congratulations!

  4. Jan Dregalla says:

Magnificent to have the school filled with your talent and the teachings of it both during the show and after.

  5. Cristina McCarthy says:

I am so glad to have had the chance to work with Andrij in putting together this outstanding exhibit! What a honor to work with talented people like Andrij!
